General

  • House of Halo is a boutique smile studio offering professional teeth whitening and custom tooth gems. We focus on safe, effective treatments that give your smile a little extra sparkle - literally and figuratively!

  • We are based at 2/60 Waimea Road, Nelson (right in-between Devon Bakery and The Night Owl Dairy!)

  • You can book directly on our website, via email (hello@houseofhalo.co.nz) or via Instagram DM. Appointments are essential to ensure you get the treatment and timing that suits you best.

  • For teeth whitening, we generally don’t require a consultation. For custom tooth gems or larger designs, a brief consultation helps us plan the perfect look.

Teeth Whitening

  • Our whitening treatments use safe cleaning agents applied to your teeth under controlled light settings. Results can vary depending on your natural shade and lifestyle habits.

  • Absolutely. We use professional treatments. We also offer multiple light settings to suit different sensitivity levels.

Please be aware that we will not treat anyone under the age of 16, and only recommend for ages 18+ due to enamel development.

  • Results vary, but most clients maintain their glow for 2–6 weeks. Good oral hygiene and avoiding staining foods or drinks help extend results.

  • Yes! We have three light settings to adjust the intensity and maximize comfort. We’ll recommend the best option for your sensitivity.

  • Dental work such as crowns, veneers, dentures, fillings, and cosmetic bonding will only be whitened to the extent of removing surface stains, meaning they may return to their original shade but will not whiten beyond that.

Unlike natural teeth, these materials are non-porous and made from composite, so they do not respond to whitening in the same way. It’s important to let your whitening technician know about any dental work before treatment so we can adjust the process and aim for the best possible colour match with your natural teeth.

Tooth Gems

  • Tiny, decorative crystals applied to the surface of your teeth. They’re non-permanent, safe, and removable if you change your mind.

  • Yes. We use high-quality materials like Swarovski crystals and ensure proper placement with adhesive designed for teeth.

*What isn’t safe is attempting to remove gem(s) on your own, as this can cause damage to your teeth. If removal is something you desire, please see your dentist, as they are equipped to properly remove the tooth gem without causing damage to the teeth/enamel.

  • Absolutely. Gems are for everyone! However, please be aware that we will not treat anyone under the age of 16, and only recommend for ages 18+ due to enamel development.

  • Typically, 1–3 months - completely depending on your lifestyle and dental habits.

  • When applied AND removed correctly by a professional, gems do not damage enamel.

Please DO NOT attempt to remove the gem(s) yourself, as this can cause tooth damage. Tooth gems can become loose on their own, depending on your oral habits and hygiene. If they fall off on their own, there will be leftover adhesive on the surface of the tooth that will need to be removed by a dentist. If the adhesive is left on the tooth, it can cut or cause irritation to the inside of the mouth.

For gem removal, we recommend seeing your dentist, as they are equipped to remove the tooth gem without causing any damage to the enamel.

Aftercare

  • Avoid dark-colored foods and drinks for 24–48 hours, maintain regular brushing, and use a gentle toothpaste.

  • Brush gently around the gem, avoid biting very hard foods directly on the gem, and avoid abrasive toothpaste.

  • It’s not recommended. Removal by a professional prevents damage to your enamel. If you’d like to book a gem removal appointment, we recommend booking with your dentist.

  • Not usually, but if you have any concerns within 7 days, get in touch and we’ll happily check or replace once free of charge.

Health & Safety

  • Teeth whitening is not recommended for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who suspect they may be pregnant. Tooth gems are generally safe but check with your healthcare provider before booking your appointment.

  • Sensitivity can affect treatment. Please let us know of any relevant dental history so we can adjust your session.

Please be aware - dental work such as crowns, veneers, dentures, fillings, and cosmetic bonding will not whiten. This may cause a slight colour difference compared to your natural enamel – this is normal and does not reflect the effectiveness of the treatment.

  • Most clients experience zero to minimal discomfort. Whitening may cause temporary sensitivity, and gems are painless to apply.

  • Yes – you must be at least 16 years old for both teeth whitening and tooth gems. We typically recommend for those 18+, due to enamel development.
